At the County of Marin we strive for diversity and an inclusive work environment. The County of Marin is an Equal Opportunity Employer and invites all qualified people to apply, including persons of color, women, and individuals with disabilities.

If you have questions regarding Equal Employment, please contact the Equal Employment Director, Roger Crawford, at (415) 473-2095.

Requesting Accommodation for Recruitment Examinations

Reasonable accommodation for people with disabilities may be requested by calling (415) 473-6104 (voice) or (415) 473-5780 (TTY) at least 72 hours in advance of a scheduled exam. Copies of documents are available in accessible formats upon request.

Fixed Term Positions at the County

Fixed term positions are regular, budgeted positions that are limited in duration due to related funding source, project duration, or coverage for a regular employee who is on extended leave.

Fixed term positions may end prior to their scheduled ending date if funding ceases or the work is complete.  In addition, fixed term positions may continue beyond their scheduled ending date if funding is renewed or extended.  Per PMR 48.2, fixed-term employees are not subject to Reduction in Force rights at the completion of the term.

Current Regular Hire Employees who fill a Fixed Term Position

Current regular hire County employees who subsequently fill a fixed term position may, if pre-approved by the appointing authority, retain their status as a regular hire employee throughout the term of the fixed term appointment.

Appealing a Recruitment/Selection Decision

There are two appeals procedures available to a candidate, examination appeals and selection appeals.

Examination Appeals

Candidates may appeal examination procedures to the County of Marin Personnel Commission. The bases for an examination appeal are the following:

  • Appropriateness or correctness of an item or items in written examinations
  • Failure to follow proper examination procedures
  • Fraud or favoritism int the oral interview process

For examination appeal procedures, please refer to PMR 31.11.

Selection Appeals

Selection Appeals are for those certified to a hiring authority for consideration for appointment to a vacant position. The sole basis for a selection appeal is failure to follow uniform, job related selection procedures. For selection appeal procedures, please refer to PMR 33.6.
